Studies consistently cite parent involvement is one of the most important parts of a student's education. As your student continues to learn in STEAM, you will find here conversation starters, questions, and resources to help you connect to what your student is doing in the classroom. As always, feel free to reach out if you have questions or concerns.
Choose the project your student is working on to learn more about what they are learning in class!
In this project, your student will learn the steps of the engineering process by demonstrating that they naturally go through the steps.
In this project, your student will learn about 3D printing and the design process as they create their own 3x scale Lego 'mega' figure.
They will start by generating many ideas as quick sketches, then narrow down to one final choice as they develop those ideas further. Once a decision has been made, they will create orthographic drawings and learn 3d modeling techniques to make their design virtually. By learning how a 3d printer works, they will transform their designs from a virtual model to real-life object using the in-class 3d printer. Through the rapid-prototyping process, your student will 'test' their solution against the critera provided and make changes as necessary to ensure a successful project.
In this project, your student will be learning about AI software.
By the end of this project, they will be able to answer the questions:
What are the differences between the different kinds of AI?
How does AI work?
What is AI good for and not good for?
How can it be used ethically and correctly?
Through the supervised use of LLM, students will create and analyze materials using AI software.
